Gurdaspur, Feb 22:Two Punjab Police personnel were found dead with bullet wounds on Sunday near the International Border in Adhian village, Gurdaspur district. The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Jawan Ashok Kumar, according to officials at the Dorangla police station.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter remain unclear as investigators evaluate multiple theories. Initial reports suggested a possible internal dispute between the two men that may have escalated into gunfire. However, local accounts also pointed toward the possibility of an attack by a “carrier”—an operative tasked with retrieving drone-dropped contraband—who may have opened fire when challenged by the patrolling officers.
Dorangla SHO Banarsi Dass stated that the bodies were discovered in a sensitive zone frequently monitored for cross-border activity. While top officials, including DIG Border Sandeep Goel and SSP Aditya, arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery, a definitive sequence of events has not yet been established. The authorities maintained that a thorough forensic analysis is required before a final conclusion can be reached.
The Adhian village area is recognized as a high-risk sector due to its proximity to the border and its history of drone intrusions involving narcotics and weapons. Officials affirmed that the Border Security Force maintains a heightened presence in this “Vibrant Village” to counter smuggling attempts. Security remains tight across the Dorangla sector as teams continue to scour the area for evidence of external involvement.
