Chandigarh, March 19: Former Indian Administrative Service officer KJS Cheema officially entered the Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday during a ceremony at the party headquarters in Chandigarh. Cheema, a 1993-batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, was inducted into the fold by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who cited the retired bureaucrat’s extensive administrative background as a significant gain for the organization.
The retired officer previously served a lengthy tenure on deputation within the Punjab government, most notably as the Special Principal Secretary to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. A native of Moonak in Sangrur district, Cheema also holds a background as a Captain in the Indian Army before his transition into the civil services.
Sukhbir Singh Badal affirmed that the party would benefit from the discipline and field experience Cheema gained during his military and administrative career. The party president declared that Cheema functioned as a vital link in implementing the vision of the late Parkash Singh Badal. He maintained that the officer was constantly present alongside the former Chief Minister to ensure that official promises were translated into action.
During the induction, the SAD president asserted that the party remains the only regional entity dedicated to the service of Punjab. He stated that the 105-year history of the Akali Dal would be strengthened by Cheema’s repository of knowledge. Badal also noted that the current Aam Aadmi Party administration has relied on misleading the public, contrasting it with the record of his own organization.
