Malerkotla, March 21: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday announced a major infrastructure boost for Malerkotla, confirming the establishment of a government medical college at a cost of ₹563 crore. Celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with the local community at the historic Eidgah, the Chief Minister stated that the project, spanning 38.5 acres, has already moved into the tendering phase.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the new institution will provide 100 MBBS seats every year, ensuring that local youth have the opportunity to pursue medical careers within the state. He declared that the facility will be a comprehensive healthcare hub, featuring an attached 200-bed hospital and a dedicated nursing college. Additionally, a 150-bed ESI hospital will be constructed on 8.5 acres to serve the healthcare needs of the Khanna-Ludhiana industrial corridor.
During his address, the Chief Minister urged residents to enroll in the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna to access cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh. He maintained that this welfare scheme is designed to ensure that no family faces financial hardship due to medical emergencies. He stated that the government stands firmly with the people, providing a safety net through both public and empanelled private hospitals.
The Chief Minister also noted significant progress in local education, asserting that a new five-story girls’ school building is nearing completion. He declared that the facility is expected to be inaugurated within the next three weeks, providing modern educational infrastructure for the region’s daughters. He maintained that these initiatives are part of a broader commitment to fulfilling all administrative guarantees made to the public.
Reflecting on the cultural significance of the region, the Chief Minister stated that Malerkotla remains a symbol of communal harmony and peace. He affirmed that the seeds of hatred can never germinate on the fertile soil of Punjab, which is protected by the legacy of great saints and gurus. He concluded by extension of his heartfelt greetings to the Muslim community, promising to safeguard the state’s tradition of togetherness at any cost.
