Chandigarh, April 1: A low-intensity explosion occurred Wednesday evening near the Punjab BJP headquarters in Chandigarh’s Sector 37, triggering a major security response. The blast, reported around 5:00 PM, took place in a busy lane housing the Law Bhavan and a regional blood bank, causing visible damage to a parked two-wheeler and nearby vehicles.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur, who arrived at the site to oversee the operation, affirmed that the area had been cordoned off as a precautionary measure. While BSF personnel were deployed to secure the perimeter, forensic experts began collecting samples to identify the nature of the device. “It is too early to determine the exact nature of the blast-like sound,” the SSP stated, noting that preliminary observations suggest a two-wheeler was the primary point of impact.

Witnesses at the party office reported hearing a sudden, loud sound followed by smoke. Jaswinder Singh, a staff member present during the incident, declared that the explosion originated near a boundary wall. “A two-wheeler outside the wall had caught fire, and window panes of a couple of cars were damaged,” he asserted, adding that staff initially suspected a mechanical failure before noticing the external impact.

No casualties were reported in the incident. Police officials maintained that all possible angles are being investigated, including the source of the materials involved. Security has been heightened across the sector as authorities continue to review surveillance footage from the vicinity.
