KOLKATA, May 7 — Governor R.N. Ravi has officially dissolved the West Bengal Legislative Assembly effective May 7, following the completion of its five-year term. The dissolution was confirmed through an official notification issued by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs, signaling the formal conclusion of the legislative cycle that began in May 2021.
The outgoing Assembly was constituted after the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, secured a third consecutive term in the 2021 state elections. Authorities stated that the dissolution follows the successful completion of the recently held two-phase electoral process, paving the way for the formation of a new government.
The Governor affirmed that the decision aligns with constitutional requirements regarding the tenure of the House. He noted that the transition process is now underway following the formal notification of the term’s end. The dissolution officially brings a close to the administrative activities of the previous legislative body as the state awaits the final certification of the fresh election results.
