Kapurthala, May 8: Kapurthala police have reported a significant spike in narcotics recoveries over the past 14 months, following a concentrated effort to dismantle trafficking networks under the state’s anti-drug initiative. Official statistics released Thursday reveal that heroin seizures reached 30.4 kg between March 2025 and April 2026, a sharp rise from the 10.6 kg confiscated in the preceding 14-month period.
The data indicates that the 187 percent increase in heroin recoveries is mirrored by substantial gains in other categories. Poppy husk seizures surged by 166 percent, growing from 170 kg to 452 kg, while opium recoveries rose 68 percent to over 11 kg. Furthermore, the confiscation of intoxicant tablets nearly doubled, reaching a total of 72,480 units.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora stated that the campaign has transitioned into a focused and aggressive operation against organized crime. He noted that the police are moving beyond simple street-level arrests to disrupt the broader supply chain.
“The significant increase in recoveries reflects the relentless efforts of Kapurthala Police to disrupt supply chains and curb drug trafficking at every level,” SSP Toora asserted.
The scale of enforcement has expanded concurrently with the volume of seizures. Police registered 1,498 FIRs under the NDPS Act during the campaign period, a 298 percent increase over the previous term. Arrests also saw a nearly threefold jump, with 1,867 individuals taken into custody.
Beyond physical arrests, authorities have targeted the financial infrastructure of drug syndicates. Kapurthala police initiated legal proceedings against 48 properties valued at over ₹9.10 crore, successfully securing freezing orders for assets worth ₹8.60 crore. Officials maintained that crippling the economic backbone of these networks is essential for long-term success.
