NEW DELHI, May 18, 2026 – India has strongly censured a drone strike targeting the periphery of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, characterizing the hostiles as an intolerable provocation that risks widening regional instability.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued an immediate appeal for all involved entities to cease aggressive actions and re-engage in diplomatic negotiations. The international condemnation followed an aerial incursion in Abu Dhabi’s western Al Dhafra region, where an unmanned aerial vehicle caused a fire at an electrical generator located just outside the nuclear facility’s inner security boundaries.
“India is deeply concerned at the attack targeting the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation. We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated.
Municipal authorities from the Abu Dhabi Media Office noted that emergency personnel successfully extinguished the blaze without any casualties. Officials affirmed that the incident caused no structural damage to the reactors and had zero impact on regional radiological readings.
The strike has drawn swift international pushback, with neighboring Saudi Arabia describing the operation as a direct challenge to the security of the Arabian Peninsula. International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Grossi noted that any military maneuvers threatening the operational safety of a nuclear facility violate global security standards.
The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence reported that its anti-air units successfully brought down two additional drones operating near its western border. Emirati state representatives stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact origin of the flight paths, asserting that the country maintains the legal right to protect itself against such hostile incursions.
Concurrently, defense forces in Saudi Arabia reported tracking and downing three separate drones that crossed into their sovereign airspace from Iraq. Saudi authorities noted they are implementing comprehensive operational precautions to handle ongoing threats to their territorial borders
