NEW DELHI, JUNE 1—First responders and disaster management personnel entered the final phases of debris removal on Monday at the site of a multi-storey commercial building collapse near the Saket Metro station. The emergency deployment continues to operate under high-alert protocols to ensure complete clearing of the suburban commercial block.
The incident, which took place on Westend Marg in the Saidulajab area, impacted an active student hub containing educational centers, public cafes, and workspaces. Following the structural failure, local municipal bodies initiated immediate administrative actions, resulting in the formal suspension of an assistant engineer and a junior engineer over supervision lapses.
Safety teams indicated that the perimeter will remain cordoned off until the entire footprint of the structural ruin is analyzed. A Delhi Fire Service representative stated that structural crews intend to remain on-site until every segment of the structural mass is systematically reviewed and cleared.
“Teams will remain deployed at the site until every single inch of the area is cleared to ensure that no person remains trapped under the rubble,” the fire safety official stated regarding the ongoing operations. Law enforcement personnel affirmed that multiple investigative teams are tracing the building’s management while a formal First Information Report has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
