New Delhi, June 24: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has formally extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming funeral and state burial ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to diplomatic sources, the formal request was transmitted through established channels on Wednesday as regional nations prepare for the high-profile events.
The multi-day state ceremonies are scheduled to take place next month, commencing across multiple locations. The official services are set to begin in Tehran and the holy city of Qom on July 5, 6, and 7, before moving to Mashhad for the final burial ceremony on July 9.
“The Indian Prime Minister has been invited by President Pezeshkian to the burial ceremonies,” a diplomatic source declared. The source asserted that New Delhi is currently reviewing the communication, with no official confirmation regarding attendance released by the Indian administration as of yet.
The late Supreme Leader, who guided the Islamic Republic for over three decades, passed away earlier this year on February 28 during the initial wave of aerial operations over Tehran. The upcoming gathering is expected to draw significant international attendance from various heads of state and foreign dignitaries.
