Chandigarh, 26 October 2024: The Union government announced on Saturday the appointment of Nishant Kumar Yadav, a 2013-batch IAS officer, as the new deputy commissioner of Chandigarh. Currently serving as the deputy commissioner of Gurugram, Yadav will succeed Vinay Pratap Singh, who has held the Chandigarh post since 2021.
According to a letter from the Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training, the “appointments committee of the cabinet approved the proposal from the Union Home Ministry for Nishant Kumar Yadav’s appointment as deputy commissioner of Chandigarh, on inter-cadre deputation from the Haryana cadre to the AGMUT cadre for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever comes first.”
The Haryana government had recommended a panel of three IAS officers for the position. In addition to Yadav, the list included Ajay Kumar, the Rohtak deputy commissioner, and Manoj Kumar, who currently serves as the deputy commissioner of Sonepat.
Yadav brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He was appointed deputy commissioner of Gurugram in February 2022, succeeding Yash Garg, and has also served as the deputy commissioner of Karnal, additional deputy commissioner, municipal commissioner of Karnal, and sub-divisional magistrate of Sonepat. His prior role as secretary of the Haryana Public Service Commission further underscores his administrative credentials.
Meanwhile, Vinay Pratap Singh, a 2011-batch IAS officer, is set to conclude his tenure in Chandigarh in November. Sources indicate he has been cleared for central deputation, although official confirmation regarding his next posting has yet to be issued.
