WARDHA, July 20 — Five people lost their lives and another suffered critical injuries in a collision on the Samruddhi Expressway near the Virul Interchange, police officials stated on Monday.
According to the Wardha Police, the incident occurred after an Eicher truck collided with a car from behind within the jurisdiction of the Pulgaon Police Station. Four occupants in the car, including its driver, died at the scene, while the truck driver later succumbed to his injuries. The truck cleaner sustained grave injuries and remains under medical care.
Personnel from the Highway Police and Pulgaon Police arrived at the location to launch rescue operations and restore normal traffic movement along the expressway. Authorities subsequently shifted the deceased to the Pulgaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
In a separate development, municipal officials reported a road mishap in Mumbai’s Andheri West after a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus experienced an alleged brake failure. The vehicle, travelling from Tilak Nagar to the Andheri Bus Station, collided with four cars, an auto-rickshaw, and a tempo along SV Road near Amboli.
Emergency teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police cleared the damaged vehicles to restore vehicular movement. Two individuals, identified as Santalal Yadav and Sakshi, were conveyed to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment, where medical staff confirmed their condition to be stable.
