Chandigarh, July 21: Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh declared that the police force used against student demonstrators during their march towards Parliament was wrong, asserting that administrative authorities must pay attention to the youth’s demands. Writing on social media, Dosanjh maintained that the voice of the public reflects the voice of God and called for a more empathetic approach toward the protesting students. He affirmed that treating students in such a harsh manner during their peaceful movement is completely unacceptable.
The Punjabi artist acknowledged that voicing support for the demonstration might lead to him being labeled anti-national once again. Dosanjh recalled the severe backlash and legal complications he experienced following his stance during the historic farmers’ movement. He maintained that despite knowing the potential criticism he might face, he felt compelled to speak up for the fundamental rights and demands of the youth.
The demonstration was organized by the Cockroach Janta Party as part of its ongoing agitation demanding structural reforms in the national examination system. The movement, which initiated its sit-in at Jantar Mantar, previously gained momentum through activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike. Several prominent figures from the film and creative industries, including Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Prakash Raj, Anurag Kashyap, and Sonakshi Sinha, have also declared their support for the ongoing student campaign.
