Chamba, July 24: Thirteen individuals lost their lives after a massive landslide buried a passenger taxi travelling on the Udaipur–Killar road in Himachal Pradesh. The vehicle, carrying passengers heading toward the remote Pangi Valley, was crushed when debris and rocks cascaded down the hillside near Kaddu Nala.
“Search and rescue operations were initiated immediately by teams from the Lahaul and Spiti Police alongside the local administration,” Resident Commissioner Amandeep Singh maintained while detailing the administrative response.
The travellers had spent the previous night in Tindi due to prior road blockages along the route before continuing their journey once the road reopened on Friday morning. One survivor was rescued from the rubble by response teams but succumbed to injuries while being transported to the hospital. Officials cautioned travellers to monitor administrative advisories and avoid routes prone to landslides as heavy rainfall continues across the mountainous region.
