New Delhi, July 31: The Lok Sabha passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill on Friday during a session marked by continuous opposition protests. The legislative measure, which updates the framework of the 1969 parent Act, was approved as lawmakers gathered in the well of the House to press their political demands regarding recent administrative and law enforcement actions.
Addressing the assembly during the proceedings, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju maintained that the scheduling for the crucial legislation was formally decided in consultation with political leaders. “Today an important bill was passed, and we indeed wanted everyone to participate in it,” Rijiju stated, adding that “Time for this was fixed in the Business Advisory Committee.” He further declared that opposition groups should refrain from questioning the parliamentary process outside the chamber when opportunities for formal discussion were established.
Following the transaction of statutory business, presiding authorities adjourned the Lower House to meet again on August 3. Simultaneously, similar disruptions occurred in the Rajya Sabha over student-related demonstrations, leading to an adjournment of the Upper House until the following week.
