Shimla, July 31: The Himachal Pradesh government has granted a two-year extension to Ram Subhag Singh, a retired IAS officer and former Chief Secretary, maintaining his post as Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Official notification issued earlier in the day confirmed the continuation of his tenure, underscoring the administration’s reliance on experienced administrative hands. Singh was originally brought into the advisory role immediately following his superannuation on July 31, 2023.
The decision brings fresh attention to past political positions, given that Chief Minister Sukhu had previously questioned Singh’s appointment as Chief Secretary during the prior BJP-led administration under Jai Ram Thakur. Political observers noted that the government chose to retain the veteran officer regardless of earlier debates regarding administrative appointments.
During the previous tenure under Jai Ram Thakur, Singh was stepped down from the Chief Secretary post amid political discussions in the state capital. Despite those developments, the current administration affirmed his administrative utility by extending his advisory term through a fresh mandate.
