Patiala, August 7 — A wave of grief hit Atalan village near Patiala after Khushkarandeep Singh, a 24-year-old youth working in the United States, was found shot dead inside his vehicle in California.

The deceased had moved to the United States nearly five years ago to support his family and was working as a commercial truck driver. According to initial details, family members lost contact with Singh after July 30, when his mobile phone suddenly went out of coverage. Following missing person reports, US law enforcement launched search operations and subsequently recovered his body from a wooded area.

Preliminary findings by local police indicate that Singh sustained gunshot wounds while traveling inside his vehicle. While detectives continue working to track down the unidentified assailants, the precise motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

“His family has appealed to the Government of India and the Indian Embassy to help bring his mortal remains back home at the earliest,” local representatives stated regarding the family’s plea to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Simultaneously, members of the North American Punjabi diaspora have organized a fundraising drive to assist the bereaved family with legal procedures and the repatriation costs required to bring the remains back for final rites.
