NEW DELHI, AUGUST 12 — Maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control is essential for the overall progression of bilateral relations, declared the Ministry of External Affairs while responding to queries regarding the military situation in the Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district.
Addressing a weekly media briefing, official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal affirmed that India views border developments with the utmost seriousness, noting that the state of frontier affairs directly impacts broader diplomatic engagement. The statement follows reports of patrol movements near the remote Taksing circle, where Indian and Chinese security personnel conducted standard banner protocols to assert their respective territorial positions before resuming established operational posts.
“In matters relating to the border areas between India and China, we have always emphasised in discussions with the Chinese side that we consider these issues as most serious and that the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in these areas is of the utmost importance,” stated MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. “We have also stated that the state of the border affairs will reflect on the state of our larger bilateral ties.”
The spokesperson referred to the 36th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs, conducted on August 6, where representatives engaged in constructive discussions to review border conditions. Both sides agreed to maintain active communication through existing diplomatic and military mechanisms, including local commander-level talks, to prevent misunderstandings along the frontier.
Concurrently, India firmly rejected objections raised regarding the formal identification of 27 geographical features within Arunachal Pradesh, maintaining that the northeastern state remains an integral and inalienable part of the nation. State authorities are also progressing with regional development plans, including turning the historic Taksing area into a prominent tourism circuit following the inauguration of local cultural landmarks.
