Chandigarh, August 20: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh has drawn fresh criticism after posting a six-year-old video to attack the ruling state administration over educational infrastructure. The former cricketer shared clips showing dilapidated toilet facilities at Government High School in Jalhan village, Fatehgarh Sahib, which social media users later verified as footage shot in 2018.
Defending his online commentary, the lawmaker maintained his stance against public backlash.
“Don’t speak truth, otherwise you will also be labelled as paid troll,” Harbhajan stated.
The controversial post featured an NGO activist inspecting the campus grounds, pointing out that female students were subjected to severe inconvenience. The activist asserted that young girls were forced to restrict their daily water consumption in extreme weather conditions simply to avoid using roofless, unsanitary facilities.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another social media dispute where the MP posted video footage of intoxicated individuals, claiming it reflected local conditions. Punjab Police subsequently verified that the footage originated from Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema affirmed that legal proceedings could be initiated over the inaccurate posts. Harbhajan maintained that pointing out the origin of the footage does not erase the ongoing reality of local issues.
Meanwhile, a separate clip posted by the leader showed residents of Talwandi village confronting Gill MLA Jeevan Sangowal during a public gathering over civic concerns, which has not drawn any factual dispute.
