Law Enforcement Recovers Over 41 Kg Heroin as Campaign Targets Cross-Border Networks

Fazilka, August 20: Fazilka District Police has arrested 1,331 individuals across 924 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during an intensive eight-month anti-drug operation. The sustained drive resulted in the seizure of 41.124 kg of heroin, 6.503 kg of opium, 250.537 kg of poppy husk, 15,843 intoxicating tablets, and 38 vehicles used for illicit transport.

 

State law enforcement leadership confirmed that the initiative addresses both supply reduction and individual recovery.

 

“In the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign, Fazilka Police has recorded significant success against drug trafficking and abuse,” Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated. “Alongside enforcement, due emphasis has also been laid on rehabilitation.”

 

Officials noted that 252 individuals were admitted to De-Addiction Centres, 1,809 were referred to Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment facilities, and 141 individuals were covered under Section 64-A of the NDPS Act.

 

Police also targeted organized crime, arresting 15 individuals in 10 cases under the Arms Act while seizing 26 illegal firearms, 32 magazines, 52 live cartridges, and three drones. In specific actions against cross-border smuggling networks, officers registered 16 cases and arrested 11 suspects, securing 26.822 kg of heroin. Community outreach complemented the enforcement, featuring 99 Project Sampark meetings and 334 anti-drug awareness seminars across the district.
