CHANDIGARH, August 21 — The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, declared Adil Brar as its candidate for the presidential post in the Panjab University student council elections.

The announcement was made by AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand, who highlighted Brar’s history of student advocacy. Brar previously served as the youngest Departmental Representative for the Law Department after securing a strong vote margin.

Focusing on core student demands, the campaign plans to highlight campus academic conditions and sports facilities alongside pressing local university issues.

“Education and sports will be the two key pillars of my campaign,” declared Adil Brar, expressing gratitude to the party leadership for trusting him with the nomination.

Party representatives noted that the youth are increasingly organizing around constructive social and educational matters. “Over the past 10–12 years, politics in the country has often focused on dividing people on the basis of religion and caste,” stated MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. “But today, the younger generation is increasingly raising its voice on issues concerning education and the future of the country”.

Student leaders also drew attention to ongoing campus concerns, including basic facility maintenance, cleanliness, and accountability following the death of a student named Jyoti.

Lawmakers reaffirmed that the candidate actively participated in past student rights demonstrations, including protests regarding the university Senate. “Adil Brar is the most capable candidate for the post of President,” maintained MLA Amritpal Singh Sukhanand, citing his track record in student activism.
