SUNARIYA, August 25 — Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh walked out of the district jail in Sunariya village on Tuesday morning after receiving a 21-day furlough. Convicted and serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two female disciples, the Dera head departed the prison premises around 6:05 AM in an SUV under heavy police security.

“He will stay at his Dera in Sirsa during the furlough period,” affirmed prison officials regarding his temporary release itinerary. The current 21-day release marks the third time this year and the 17th instance overall that he has been granted parole or furlough since his conviction by a special CBI court in Panchkula in August 2017.

The state government had earlier granted him temporary release twice this year, including a 40-day parole in January and a 30-day period in May. Officials maintained that all temporary releases have been processed under the standard provisions of the state’s prisoner release regulations.

With the latest decision, the Dera chief returns to his primary establishment in Sirsa under strict security monitoring. Local authorities confirmed that law enforcement teams have been deployed to maintain order around the Dera premises throughout the duration of his stay.
