CHANDIGARH, August 31 — The National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Monday issued strict instructions to Punjab authorities to arrest State Congress Chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring within five days in connection with alleged derogatory remarks against late former Union Home Minister Buta Singh. The panel, headed by Chairman Kishor Makwana, voiced strong concern over the delay in law enforcement action despite explicit directions provided during a prior proceeding.
The matter stems from an election rally in Tarn Taran, where the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president reportedly made controversial statements regarding the former leader. Appearing before the panel, police officials received instructions to complete the probe and file a formal chargesheet before the competent court without delay. The commission further recommended that administrative authorities examine accountability among investigating personnel, noting that any willful neglect of duty should attract departmental action under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Prioritizing petitioner safety, the panel evaluated threat assessments concerning Sarabjot Singh, son of the late Union minister. Chairman Kishor Makwana affirmed that victim and complainant protection remains a critical statutory safeguard. The commission directed immediate and adequate police security for the petitioner and his family members across Delhi and Punjab to ensure proceedings continue without fear of intimidation.
