Chandigarh, August 31: The second consecutive victory of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the Panjab University Campus Students Council elections reflects a growing preference among Punjab’s youth for development, employment and opportunities, Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu said on Sunday.
Congratulating ABVP presidential candidate Ankit Bidhan on his victory, Sandhu said the decisive mandate from students of one of the country’s leading universities carried significance beyond the campus and indicated a shift in the aspirations of the younger generation.
“The message of this result is clear – today’s youth stands firm with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Developed India’ vision and is seeing their dreams, hopes and future in it,” Sandhu said.
He said young people wanted progress, employment and new opportunities and were keen to participate actively in India’s development journey.
According to Sandhu, the result also challenged what he described as misconceptions about the priorities and outlook of the younger generation. He said the Panjab University students had demonstrated through their vote that they were looking towards the future rather than being driven by disappointment or conflict.
“Today’s youth wants progress, wants employment and new opportunities and wants their active participation in the country’s development journey,” he said.
Sandhu said Panjab University was an important centre of debate and youth aspirations in Punjab and Chandigarh, making the election result significant beyond the university campus.
He said Punjab’s young generation wanted an environment in which it could build its future within the state instead of being compelled to move elsewhere in search of opportunities.
“The new generation of Punjab wants a Punjab where they do not have to leave their homeland to fulfill their dreams; where there is employment, industry comes, investment increases and the talent of the youth gets opportunities to move forward,” Sandhu said.
He described a prosperous Punjab integrated with the development journey of India as the aspiration of the state’s youth.
Sandhu attributed the ABVP’s second consecutive presidential victory partly to the organisation’s engagement with students during the previous term. He specifically praised former president Gaurav Vir Singh Sohal and his team, saying their work on student issues helped build the trust that contributed to the latest victory.
He also congratulated young leader Gaurav Attri, saying that under his leadership and supervision, the ABVP team contested the elections with energy, discipline and unity and communicated its agenda effectively to students.
Sandhu further congratulated BJP national president Nitin Nabin, saying the result was particularly significant because it came under the leadership of a leader representing the younger generation.
He said the latest mandate showed that the BJP’s engagement with Punjab’s youth was strengthening and that development-oriented politics was finding greater resonance among students.
“The students of Punjab University have given a clear message with their vote—the youth is looking towards the future, wants to move forward and wants to be a part of the journey of a developed India,” Sandhu said.
He added that Punjab’s youth also saw the prospect of a developed, prosperous and opportunity-rich Punjab as part of that larger national vision.
