Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintained on Tuesday that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation must act cohesively to dismantle the support infrastructure of terrorism across the region. Addressing member states at the summit in Bishkek, he stated that member countries must present a unified stance without applying double standards. The gathering brought together key global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Prime Minister declared that state structures financing or hosting extremist networks must receive unambiguous international feedback. “Those countries that use terrorism as an instrument of their policy, and provide shelter and support to terrorists, must be sent a strong message that terrorism cannot be a ‘strategic asset’ for anyone,” PM Modi stated.
Indian representatives affirmed that sustainable regional stability depends on eliminating safe havens, radicalization networks, and funding pipelines. Delegates maintained that addressing complex security threats requires abandoning selective approaches to counter-terrorism. Prime Minister Modi asserted that effective multilateral cooperation must focus directly on protecting civilians and building peaceful connectivity.
The high-level session concluded with member delegations holding discussions on trade security, regional stability, and joint economic initiatives. Diplomatic observers noted that the address reinforced India’s long-held position on cross-border security challenges in front of regional partners.
