The Haryana Government directed striking sanitation employees across municipal bodies to resume their duties by September 5, cautioning that non-compliance would result in departmental and legal consequences.
The Urban Local Bodies Department communicated the instructions to all Municipal Commissioners and District Municipal Commissioners, asking them to notify protesting staff within their jurisdictions. Civic administration officials confirmed that local authorities have started the implementation process following the state directive.
Satyendra Duhan, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Rohtak, affirmed that the civic body was in the process of implementing the directives.
Official documents noted that sanitation remains an essential service and represents a primary statutory function under the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973, while falling under the purview of the Haryana Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1974. State authorities noted that workers had been absent from duty since August 6 without prior approval, while participating in demonstrations led by the Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh.
Government representatives asserted that the disruption affects public health maintenance, particularly during ongoing seasonal viral concerns. Authorities maintained that measures remain focused on restoring normal civic routines across all municipalities.
