Chandigarh: Public participation has become a driving force in Punjab’s ongoing campaign against illicit drugs, with citizen intelligence contributing to over 25,000 arrests across the state. Data recorded between March 2025 and early September 2026 shows that enforcement agencies processed nearly 52,000 tip-offs received via the Safe Punjab Helpline. State officials affirmed that inputs submitted through the portal have significantly aided field operations in identifying active supply networks and local distribution points.
Police records indicate that law enforcement teams registered 59,293 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during the eighteen-month period. Senior officers maintained that operations focused heavily on high-volume trafficking, resulting in the apprehension of 696 major suppliers found with significant quantities of heroin. Total seizures across the state included over 3,700 kilograms of heroin, substantial amounts of opium and poppy husk, pharmaceutical tablets, and liquid assets connected to illegal transactions.
Alongside supply disruption, state agencies continued expanding rehabilitation pathways for individuals battling substance dependence. Officers facilitated admissions for thousands of individuals into formal treatment programs and Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment centers statewide. Officials noted that provisions allowing statutory immunity under section 64A of the NDPS Act have further encouraged voluntary medical assistance.
