Chandigarh/Amritsar, Sept 22: Four prominent hockey players originating from Amritsar district are set to represent the Indian men’s hockey team at the 20th Asian Games in Japan. The contingent includes star defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, and Jugraj Singh, along with forward Dilpreet Singh, as India aims to defend its gold medal title previously secured in Hangzhou.
Team captain Harmanpreet Singh, hailing from Timmowal village, continues his role at the helm of the national side. Local sports enthusiasts and family members praised his growth from grassroots training to becoming an internationally acclaimed drag-flicker. Meanwhile, forward Dilpreet Singh from Butala village brings valuable attacking depth, having developed his skills at local sports clubs before rising through youth and senior international ranks.
Defenders Jarmanpreet Singh and Jugraj Singh further reinforce the national backline. Jarmanpreet, a key player in India’s recent Olympic bronze campaign, honed his craft at local academies before entering national service. Jugraj Singh, who recently completed 100 international appearances during the FIH Pro League, rounds out the regional representation, highlighting Amritsar’s ongoing contribution to national hockey development.
