NEW DELHI, Sept 24: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during an address at Indira Bhawan, alleging that actions surrounding the electoral process have compromised democratic principles. Gandhi demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner following his remarks.
Addressing the media, the Congress leader maintained that the handling of the voting framework represents a direct challenge to the Constitution and the country’s legal structure. He declared that those holding constitutional and executive roles must remain accountable to the public, adding that opposition parties possess sufficient details to raise formal concerns regarding the matter.
Gandhi asserted that future official inquiries would be initiated to examine the decisions and actions taken by top leadership regarding the voting setup. He further suggested that the Chief Election Commissioner consider providing full transparency on the functioning of the institution to restore public confidence.
During the press conference, Gandhi presented selected video clips featuring statements made by senior government leaders during past campaigns. He argued that predictions regarding multi-decade political tenures run counter to standard democratic dynamics, where anti-incumbency plays an essential role in reflecting the public mandate.
