New Delhi, Sept 28 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, asserting that any attempt to target the country will be met with a strong and decisive response.
Addressing the 138th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, Modi recalled the 2016 surgical strikes, describing them as a significant moment in India’s counter-terrorism policy.
Surgical Strikes Marked New Phase in Counter-Terror Policy
Modi said the September 28–29, 2016 surgical strikes demonstrated India’s resolve to act against terrorism. The operation was carried out following the deadly attack on an Army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 18 soldiers were killed.
The Prime Minister said India’s response to terrorism has evolved over the past decade, referring to the Balakot air strike and Operation Sindoor as further instances of the country’s stated approach towards terror threats.
‘Terrorism Will Be Dealt With Strongly’
Reiterating India’s policy, Modi said the country has made it clear that terrorism would be dealt with firmly and decisively, while emphasizing that India follows a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
He also recalled earlier terror attacks, including the 2008 Delhi serial blasts and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, while highlighting the long-standing impact of terrorism on the country.
Modi Recalls 10 Years of Surgical Strikes
The Prime Minister noted that the surgical strikes are completing a decade, describing the 2016 operation as a decisive response to the prolonged challenge posed by terrorist attacks.
The remarks came as India marked nearly ten years since the September 2016 operation, with the anniversary falling on September 28–29.
PM Also Highlights Anti-Drug Campaign
During the broadcast, Modi also spoke about the Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan, urging young people to stay away from drugs and participate in awareness efforts against substance abuse.
He further highlighted cleanliness initiatives undertaken by young people and communities in different parts of the country ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
