GURUGRAM, OCT 2 — The Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department has introduced a comprehensive technology-driven blueprint to streamline solid waste management across major tourist and pilgrimage sites in the state.
The initiative follows directives issued by the Supreme Court in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation case, instructing state authorities to establish dedicated mechanisms for environmental compliance at high-density destinations. Under the new strategy, local bodies will maintain digital databases tracking visitor footfall alongside mandatory seven-day waste audits. The initial rollout will cover Shri Mata Sheetla Devi Mandir in Gurugram, Shri Mansa Devi Mandir in Panchkula, and Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra.
According to Commissioner and Secretary of Urban Local Bodies Ashok Kumar Meena, the model shifts site management from temporary event-based measures to continuous monitoring systems. Key features include four-stream segregation units, sensor-equipped IoT bins providing fill-level alerts, and dedicated waste transport routes. The blueprint mandates placing four-bin stations every 50 meters along approach corridors and every 25 meters in queue zones, while requiring nearby commercial facilities to register as bulk waste generators.
