CHANDIGARH, OCT 7: Following intense political scrutiny over a steep 30.26 percent decline in Chandigarh’s voter base after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has announced a transparent re-enrolment exercise.

For the first time, electoral authorities will publish the complete list of deleted voters and directly involve political parties’ Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in door-to-door verification drives to ensure no eligible citizen is left out.

The final electoral roll published on September 22 recorded 4,60,209 voters—a significant reduction of nearly 2 lakh voters compared to the 6,59,805 electors registered during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The decision comes after Member of Parliament Manish Tewari repeatedly raised concerns with CEO Prerna Puri regarding the missing electors and boundary mismatches ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation polls.

Under the new protocol, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will cross-verify current rolls with pre-SIR records, publish Absent, Shifted, Dead, and Duplicate (ASDD) lists, and conduct special voter registration camps across all polling stations from October 7 to 11.
