CHANDIGARH, OCT 7 — State Transport Authority officials have penalized or impounded 915 vehicles operating illegally through four suspended cab aggregator services since early September, realizing Rs 91.5 lakh in total fines.

In a fresh communication to the central authorities, the local administration urged the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to block access to the companies’ mobile applications, noting that the measure remains essential to enforce the compliance orders effectively.

Bike taxis formed the largest share of non-compliant commercial transport, with authorities issuing fines to 569 two-wheelers and impounding 67 others.

Action against four-wheeler cabs resulted in 194 fines and 14 impoundments, while officials penalised 49 auto-rickshaws and impounded 22. In aggregate, transport teams issued 812 challans and impounded 103 vehicles, levying a standardized penalty of Rs 10,000 on each offending operator.

Addressing the central ministry, administrative officials affirmed that the aggregators maintain active service offerings despite clear license suspension directives. Representatives maintained that restricting application accessibility provides the most viable route to halt unauthorised daily transport operations and address ongoing regulatory non-compliance across the union territory.
