Panchkula, Oct 8: Panchkula Police have registered a massive surge in narcotics enforcement this year, apprehending 179 individuals across 102 cases and seizing illegal drugs valued at ₹26.20 crore. The total value of recovered contraband represents nearly a six-fold increase compared to the ₹4.54 crore worth of narcotics confiscated during the corresponding period last year.
Providing a breakdown of the enforcement actions, Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain detailed that the operations yielded 11.49 kg of heroin worth ₹22.98 crore, 16.99 kg of opium, 106 grams of cocaine, and over 40,000 pharmaceutical narcotic tablets. DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh noted that Punjab accounted for the highest number of arrests with 71 individuals detained, alongside suspects hailing from Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and two foreign nationals.
In conjunction with ongoing investigations, police authorities confirmed that previously confiscated narcotics valued at ₹9.27 crore across 180 cases were systematically destroyed at a specialized facility in Bagwala in accordance with standard procedure.
