Lucknow, Oct 11: Agricultural produce markets throughout Uttar Pradesh are set to undergo a major sanitation makeover following directives issued by Jitendra Pratap Singh, Director of the State Agricultural Produce Market Council.

Officials affirmed that the newly announced ‘Swachh Mandi-Shubh Mandi Abhiyan-2026′ aims to provide farmers with cleaner and more efficient facilities during the peak harvest season.

Detailing the scope of the initiative, administrators declared that all mandis and sub-market yards must execute large-scale cleaning operations throughout October 2026.

Sanitation contractors have been instructed to deploy workforces on a war footing to address accumulated waste, clear blocked drains, and eliminate waterlogged areas across all market premises. Particular attention will be directed toward auction platforms, commercial shops, and farmers’ rest houses.

With heavy arrivals of paddy and other crops anticipated alongside the approaching festive period, the campaign places strong emphasis on optimizing traffic flow and transportation networks within market yards.

Authorities maintained that clearing debris from drainage channels around auction platforms and applying lime powder or Gamaxine in damp zones will significantly improve hygiene standards.

Furthermore, concerted efforts will target the maintenance of washrooms, administrative buildings, and rest areas to guarantee uninterrupted water supply and proper drainage.

Officials asserted that removing construction debris and unused materials from ongoing civil and electrical works remains essential to ensuring a seamless experience for every visitor navigating the market infrastructure.
