Bareilly, October 13: A major welfare push for rural security personnel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced a 40 percent increase in the monthly honorarium for approximately 68,000 Gram Praharis (village watchmen) across the state, raising their stipend from ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 per month.
Addressing a grand gathering at the Bareilly Police Lines, the Chief Minister further declared that Gram Praharis and their families will now receive annual cashless medical treatment cover of up to ₹5 lakh, integrating them into the state’s comprehensive health safety net.
Comparing the vigilant role of Gram Praharis to “human CCTV cameras,” CM Yogi emphasized that timely information from local watchmen plays a crucial role in preventing crimes, land mafia encroachments, and wildlife-related emergencies.
He directed station house officers and sub-inspectors across all districts to hold mandatory weekly coordination meetings with Gram Praharis, fill vacant posts promptly, and establish seamless communication channels to bolster rural law and order.
