Fatehgarh Sahib, 03 November 2024—An explosion in a general coach of the Howrah Mail injured four people, including a woman, near Sirhind railway station late Saturday night.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) said that the blast occurred around 10:30 p.m. as the train was traveling from Amritsar to Howrah.

According to GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Singh, preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion originated from a plastic bucket containing firecrackers in the general compartment.

“We believe the blast was caused by firecrackers stored in a plastic bucket,” Singh stated.

Emergency responders transported the injured passengers to Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital for treatment.

“Their injuries are being assessed, and we are ensuring they receive the necessary medical care,” Singh added.

Authorities are taking the incident seriously, and samples have been collected for analysis at the Forensic Science Laboratory.

“Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the explosion,” Singh confirmed.
