NEW DELHI, OCT 16: Delhi Police personnel visited the residence of Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday to restrict his movement ahead of the organization’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place’s Central Park.
Law enforcement officials served a formal notice barring the CJP leader from staging the protest, alleging that his actions constituted unlawful activity and provoked public assembly. Dipke strongly challenged the police directive, questioning whether displaying the national flag in the capital had become a punishable offense.
“Is all this just to restrict me from raising our national flag? Is it a crime?” Dipke asked officers at his residence, adding that the official notice incorrectly cited an intention to visit Jantar Mantar.
The police intervention followed a late-night press conference on Thursday where Dipke clarified that the organization’s agitation did not seek regime change, but rather focused on the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and independent oversight for future elections. Despite initially refusing to accept the administrative paperwork, Dipke ultimately signed the notices after attaching a written note and advising officers to prioritize urgent public safety concerns like women’s security in the capital.
