New Delhi, October 27: The Supreme Court allowed petitioners ten days to submit their response to a comprehensive affidavit filed by the Election Commission of India defending the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana presided over the proceedings. During the hearing, the bench issued formal notices to the poll panel and relevant parties regarding a fresh petition brought by Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen. The plea contends that alterations were introduced to statutory Form 6 during the Bihar SIR exercise without obtaining the necessary authorization from the highest court.

Appearing for the parliamentarian, Senior Advocate Maneka Guruswamy argued before the bench that the Election Commission incorrectly asserted that the Supreme Court had approved the changes made to Form 6.

In its response submitted to the court, the Election Commission maintained that the revision exercise was fully authorized under existing legal provisions. The poll panel affirmed that all relevant orders and decisions were unanimously endorsed by all three members of the commission.
