Chandigarh, October 27: Congress legislators boycotted the concluding sitting of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session on Tuesday after party MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira was allegedly barred from entering the assembly premises.

Khaira had been suspended on Friday for the remainder of the session over remarks allegedly undermining the dignity of the Chair. To lodge a formal protest, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa entered the House and raised the issue with Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. When the Speaker clarified that no member could be stopped from entry unless specifically suspended from assembly sittings, Bajwa expressed dissatisfaction and led a walkout.

Earlier in the day, Congress MLAs wearing black robes and carrying placards staged a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha complex. Demonstrators burned a broom—the election symbol of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party—and raised slogans targeting the state government over its governance record.
