Lucknow, Oct 30: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released the book “Bharat Aantarik Emergency 1975” at his official residence, highlighting the historical accounts of political struggles, civil rights restrictions, and underground press networks during the 1975–1977 period.

The book, authored by former minister and senior political figure Shatrudra Prakash, chronicles the 21-month phase of Indian political history during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The author presented the first copy to the Chief Minister in the presence of political leaders Ramesh Mishra and CP Singh.

During the release event, the narrative focus centered on the suppression of democratic institutions, widespread censorship of news publications, forced population measures, and the mass detention of social activists. The volume records the broad coalition of opposition groups operating under the leadership of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, maintaining a strong focus on the resilience displayed by political organizers despite institutional crackdowns.

Personal accounts within the work detail Shatrudra Prakash’s early trajectory from Banaras Hindu University student politics to his election as one of the youngest members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1974. The documentation affirmed the underground measures undertaken by activists, including the secret publication and distribution of the cyclostyled news bulletin Ranbheri to bypass official state censorship.

The author stated that documenting the period remains crucial for preserving institutional memory regarding constitutional protections, while also reflecting on the arrest of his spouse, Anjana Prakash, alongside numerous grassroots workers during the nationwide mobilization.
