New Delhi, 6 December 24: A cold wave has begun to impact northern India, with Delhi recording its coldest day of the season on Thursday. The city experienced a minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 25.1 degrees Celsius.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an intensifying cold wave and dense fog across the region starting December 10.

The IMD predicts the activation of a western disturbance from the night of December 7, which is expected to bring snowfall to Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in the plains of North India, further influencing the cold conditions.

“Western winds will drive the intensification of the cold wave, impacting states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar,” an IMD official said. Dense fog is also anticipated in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas during the morning and evening hours.

As temperatures drop and visibility reduces, residents across the affected regions are advised to prepare for harsher weather conditions in the coming days.
