Amritsar, December 9: The rebel faction of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), known as the Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar Lehar, announced its dissolution on Monday after fulfilling the religious punishment imposed by Akal Takht. The decision marks a step towards reconciliation within the party.

Following the completion of their sewa, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, along with other leaders from the faction, visited the Akal Takht secretariat to formally declare the end of their group. Chandumajra confirmed their compliance with Akal Takht’s directives and affirmed the unity of all rebel leaders with the main SAD.

“As instructed by Akal Takht, the Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar Lehar has been dissolved, and we will now work together under the banner of Akali Dal,” Chandumajra stated after the announcement.

The Akal Takht, Sikhism’s highest temporal authority, had issued the religious punishment to the faction earlier. Meanwhile, SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal is undergoing a parallel penance at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

In addition to the faction’s dissolution, Akal Takht directed the SAD working committee to accept the resignations of incumbent members, creating space for the induction of new members. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen party unity and bring fresh leadership into its ranks.

The dissolution of the rebel faction signals a significant development in SAD’s internal dynamics, with party leaders hopeful of overcoming divisions and moving forward cohesively.
