Chandigarh, December 13, 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed strong reservations about the recently approved One Nation, One Election Bill by the Union Cabinet.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Mann underlined that the central government should prioritize One Nation, One Education System and One Nation, One Healthcare System before pushing for simultaneous elections.
Mann accused the Modi-led government of prioritizing its political agenda over public welfare.
He termed the move authoritarian, claiming it undermines regional parties and states’ interests. According to the CM, implementing uniform education and healthcare systems would benefit citizens nationwide, unlike the election reform, which he described as a tactic to serve the BJP’s interests.
On the shooting incident involving Akali leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, Mann said the Punjab government is intensifying its probe. He alleged that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) delayed cooperation by refusing access to CCTV footage from the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex. However, with the footage now in hand, Mann assured the investigation would proceed swiftly.
Accentuating his party’s milestone, Mann announced that the Aam Aadmi Party now has an office in the Parliament House. Reflecting on his time as an MP, he underlined the importance of using the platform to address issues of public interest effectively.
