Chandigarh, 24 December 2024: A car crash near the Sector 34 police station late Sunday night claimed the life of a 19-year-old and left three others injured. The incident occurred around 11:25 p.m. when their Black Thar vehicle collided with a roadside tree near the station’s main gate.
Constable Baljinder Singh, stationed at the gate, recounted hearing a loud crash and finding the severely damaged vehicle on the sidewalk. “The car was being driven recklessly at high speed, and it appeared the driver lost control,” Singh said. Emergency teams, including a PCR unit and ambulances, rushed to the scene and transported the victims to hospitals for treatment.
The deceased, identified as Rounak, 19, a resident of Aerocity, Mohali, was declared dead on arrival at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.
Three passengers—Vinayak Sharma, Aryan, and Dhananjay Sharma—suffered injuries of varying degrees and are under treatment at GMCH Sector 32 and Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
Police have filed a case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125A (negligent behavior endangering life or safety), and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The Thar has been impounded for further investigation.
