Shambhu Border, 1 January 2024: Farmer unions, under the leadership of Sarwan Singh Pandher, have decided to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji at the Shambhu border on January 6. The announcement comes as protests continue over unresolved demands, with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast unto death entering its 37th day.
Addressing the gathering, farmer leaders urged the Punjab government to reject the draft agricultural marketing policy proposed during the winter session and pass resolutions supporting their 13 demands. “Our struggle will persist until these demands are met,” a leader said.
Dallewal’s condition has worsened, with his blood pressure dropping to a critical 76/44 late Tuesday night, according to farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar. The situation remains tense as large crowds gather daily in solidarity.
A Mahapanchayat is scheduled for January 4, where the future course of action will be deliberated.
