Chandigarh, 8 January 2025: Punjab and Chandigarh continue to shiver under intense cold, with the Meteorological Department issuing an orange alert for dense fog across 23 districts, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and cover themselves properly to stay warm.

A yellow alert for dense fog and cold was issued earlier today for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and several other districts. Snowfall in the hills is exacerbating the conditions, with little relief expected in the next 3-4 days. Traffic disruptions due to poor visibility were reported, particularly along highways, with commuters forced to proceed cautiously.

The interaction of sun and clouds has kept the cold wave persistent throughout the day, resulting in minimal temperature differences between day and night. As the evening progressed, the chill intensified, forcing people to bundle up in layers or use thick sheets while venturing out.

Experts note that this is the coldest phase of the season so far, signaling winter’s peak. The weather department continues to caution residents to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions.
