New Delhi, 16 January 2025: In a significant development, the government on Thursday announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission to revise the salaries of central government employees and pensions of retirees.
“The decision to establish the 8th Pay Commission has been taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during an official briefing on Thursday.
The announcement comes as the term of the 7th Pay Commission, which was constituted in 2016, approaches its conclusion in 2026.
Vaishnaw noted, “The government will soon appoint a chairman and two members for the commission.”
This step signals the government’s commitment to reviewing compensation structures to address the evolving needs of its workforce and pensioners.
