Chandigarh, 19 January 2025: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini asserted that both his government and the Centre are committed to supporting farmers, citing achievements such as the “purchase of 100% of farmers’ crops at the minimum support price (MSP).”
Speaking at the “Saini Maha Sammelan” in Punjab’s Rupnagar, Saini underlined measures taken by Haryana for farmer welfare and criticized the Punjab government for its alleged shortcomings.
Saini announced that the Haryana government has deposited ₹1.25 lakh crore into the bank accounts of 12 lakh farmers and disbursed an additional ₹78 crore as interest on delayed crop payments.
“Farmers in Haryana are assured of 100% procurement at MSP, unlike in Punjab, where such safeguards are absent,” he stated.
The BJP leader accused the Punjab government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and its Congress predecessor of failing to protect farmers’ interests.
He urged the Punjab government to introduce legislation in its Assembly to ensure comprehensive crop procurement at MSP. Promising reform, he added, “When the BJP forms the government in Punjab, we will ensure 100% MSP procurement for farmers.”
Saini also discussed initiatives launched during his tenure to support the farming community and vulnerable sections of society.
Reflecting on challenges posed by delayed monsoon rains during last year’s Kharif season, he noted, “Farmers were forced to make additional arrangements for irrigation. To alleviate their struggles, our government provided a bonus of ₹2,000 per acre directly into their accounts.”
Expanding on social welfare efforts, Saini mentioned the state’s provision of free dialysis services for kidney patients at government hospitals, medical colleges, and postgraduate medical institutes.
“These initiatives demonstrate our unwavering commitment to uplifting the poor and laborers,” he added.
Iqbal Singh Lalpura, chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, attended the event, lending his support. The Sammelan underscored the BJP’s focus on farmer welfare and positioned Saini’s leadership as a model of effective governance.
