Chandigarh, 21 February 2025 — The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today raided the Sector 79 residence of Simran Preet Panesar, one of the nine suspects in the $20 million gold heist at Toronto Pearson International Airport in April 2023. Officials arrived at the house around 7 a.m. and launched an investigation.
An Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) has been registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
In April 2024, Peel Regional Police booked Panesar and eight others in connection with the theft of 6,600 gold bars, weighing 400 kg, from a cargo facility at the airport.
Authorities also issued an arrest warrant for Panesar, a former Air Canada supervisor, who was reportedly employed at the warehouse alongside co-accused Parampal Sidhu of Brampton.
The stolen shipment included 20 million Canadian Dollars (CAD) in gold and an additional 2.5 million CAD in foreign currency.
According to Canadian authorities, Panesar tracked the flight carrying the gold and had access to the storage facility. He reportedly toured investigators through the site during the probe before leaving Canada three months after the theft.
