Chandigarh, 09 December 2024: Political parties in Punjab have begun preparations for the municipal elections scheduled for December 21, which will see five municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils, and several nagar panchayats go to the polls.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), attaching significant importance to these elections, has set up screening committees to oversee candidate selection and campaign processes.

The committees, comprising seven to eight members each, include MLAs, MPs, zone vice presidents, and other senior leaders like district in-charges and chairpersons. AAP aims to leverage its majority presence in the state, with 95 out of 117 MLAs, to secure key victories.

These elections come at a crucial time for AAP, which has strengthened its position with recent assembly by-election wins, including three out of four seats. The party also saw Mohinder Bhagat, the Jalandhar West MLA, join its ranks earlier this year, adding to its momentum.
